Bayleys Test
Following his December 17, 2003 Flu shot Lucas regressed into severe Autism rapidly over the course of three months. Six more vaccines and two more doses of antibiotics to treat a double ear infection in January 2004 seemed to be the final nail in the coffin as he got worse and worse by the day. His comprehension, play skills and socialization quickly disappeared. He had to be removed from preschool in early February as it became obvious he was very sick and it was not getting any better. He was now regularly head banging, screaming, stimming and presented very little eye contact. In addition, he either had diarrhea or was constipated full-time at this point. See the following Bayleys accessment of his cognitive function as his regression started to get into full swing. We were advised that this put Lucas in the one quarter percentile. Yes, that is 0.25% on the Bayleys scale, this equates to a severely affected child. The assessor seemed to want to cry for us as we were too stunned to know that to say or do. Crying did seem appropriate as our Pediatrician of the time told us that our son had probable autism, assured us it was not caused by vaccines or Mercury, but it was in his genes. He then told us there were 18 month waiting lists to get into major children's hospitals and that there was nothing further he could do.

Hair Analysis
Against the advise of every doctor we knew with the exception of some enlightened friends of friends, we looked for evidence of toxic exposure. We found it, notice the mercury level of 6.67, anything higher than 1.69 is considered toxic. Unfortunately the entire medical community of Bermuda that we were exposed to refused to acknowledge the significance of this. To further my shock, ever hospital in the world we visited (including a rather large one in Boston) refused to consider this evidence in his diagnosis or treatment. One of the developmental Pediatricians who working there privately told me to go with my gut feeling, don't bother coming back to Boston if I pursue the path of Mercury. This was tantamount to telling me it just might be Mercury, but don't expect us to help you with that. To this day, no medical establishment, insurance company or government health official will even consider this a causative factor in any condition Lucas may have suffered from. The only source of help has been from "Alternative", DAN doctors and Pfeiffer Clinic doctors who tend to charge prices beyond the means of most parents with Autistic children.

Stool Analysis
Trying to explain the obvious bowel problems and distended abdomen that the Boston hospital and Bermuda doctors refused to consider an issue, a DAN doctor ordered a CDSA test, we found that there were no culturable probiotics in Lucas's gut and plenty of pathogens causing serious harm to him. Again, no doctor in Bermuda would help us at this point, we were left with our remote DAN doctor and a pocket full of tears. Treating the gut was clearly the most important first step in Lucas's recovery.

IgG Analysis
A standard test performed by DAN doctors is a IgG food allergy test, it seems mercury exposure and food allergies go hand in hand. After consultation with the company that performed the test, I learned that Lucas had more allergies than most kids on the spectrum. They told me of one girl who had 46 reactions, Lucas's 27 was very high and highly indicative of immune system problems. At this point we got very strict on our implement of a SCD based rotation diet, trying to avoid foods he became allergic too. We combined many other diet techniques into a successful 3 day rotation that persists to this day.

Pre Chelation
After many agonizing months of dietary, supplementary and anti fungal therapy combined with aggressive ABA/VB, we had made little progress in the area of language, Lucas still screamed most of the time, but if you listen closely through the screams, you could hear on occasion, 2 words, they were "eat" and "ball". At this point, we were willing to try TD-DMPS cream, the only form of chelating we could get away with in the very backward Bermuda since IV's or any official medical treatment for metal poisoning is considered heresy. Before we proceeded, we did a baseline urine toxic metals test. Take special notice of the low Creatinine level, two standard deviations below normal. Try not to throw up when I tell you his HIGH profile Pediatrician in Bermuda even refused to acknowledge that this was abnormal enough to consider doing further investigative work. He had a genetic disorder, "give it up", he said.

Post Chelation
A small and brief party was thrown after the first post chelation urine results were received. As you can see, we found a rather serious problem with heavy metals. Lucas was dumping world record levels of Cadmium and Nickel. He started making HUGE gains in ABA. After 1 day on TD-DMPS he had 10 words and screaming dropped about 70%, after 2 months, he had 100's of words. He still could not chain a sentence together and was still severely Autistic, but he was improving at a rate that made life worth living. I showed this to his Bermuda Pediatrician hoping that the evidence before him would produce local support, insurance assistance and hospital privileges for chelation, but it was to no avail. This was our last visit, I was told by his now former Pediatrician, and I quote, "You are a *#$&ing moron for believing in such malarkey". He told me to get out of his office and never come back. As he contradicted himself 4 times in a single sentence in rage, and bragged about his Ivy league degree, he condemned my son's entire life to severe Autism with all the power he had over us. In fact, all he did was make me more determined to beat the system, so I thank him for inspiring me, but I wish it had been with help and not outrage. I also hope doctors with Autistic children of their own, like him, see the light some day so they can not only help their patients, but their own kids recover.

Post Chelation
To cut a long story a bit short, Lucas dumped Cadmium and Nickel for 7 months, getting better and better all the time, but with many bumps and bruises along the way. It was not fun, but it was progress. After 9 months, we came to realize, TD-DMPS could do no more, no more metal was coming out and his progress stopped, it did not roll back, but it was not going forward. We tried a Glutathione (GSH), Vitamin C, DMPS, selenium and NAC IV through one of the two best doctors I have every known or heard of, this one in Melbourne, Florida, in an effort to jump start chelation again. Notice several key points about this lab result, Lucas's Creatinine level has almost normalized through steadfast chelation and now, finally, some serious quantities of Mercury were being pushed out of his body. Another party was thrown. I was still a very long road from here though, before the grips of Autism stopped strangling my son.
Following the success of the DMPS-IV in Florida, both pulling mercury and with marked improvement in Lucas's presentation of Autism symptoms, I campaigned hard in Bermuda to get a local doctor to perform the IV's of DMPS. TD-DMPS was no longer pulling metals out of Lucas. At this point I had found a sympathetic alternative doctor in Bermuda who was working very hard to help us, but the medical establishment refused to consider such treatment. Every door was slammed shut in our face, every attempt to get around the obstacles was met with fierce opposition. At this point, we were medical outcasts in Bermuda, many doctors had been briefed about Lucas and seemed to turn down our calls for help before we even asked for it. It was time to move on. We found a doctor elsewhere who was willing, able and the most affordable. We proceeded with IV chelation using DMPS as the agent for 6 months, one DMPS IV and another GSH + VitC IV per week. Lucas showed all the symptoms of heavy metal detoxification. He was stimmy, some times worn down, then energetic, and alive. He started improving significantly and maintained that up and down but mostly up path throughout the IV's. It did however become clear that it may take many years for this to work, Lucas was not recovering quickly enough. Then came the miracle. We discovered NCD (Zeolite). We started started the protocol of 45 drops per day, 9 times per day. Along with his entire preexisting protocol but without the IV chelation. Lucas began to make a dramatic recovery. I can say without any reservation, one bottle of NCD recovered more of my son in just over 1 week, then 6 months and $10,000.00 worth of DMPS-IV's did. The drama of 3 nurses putting a needle in Lucas's arm twice a week for 10-30 minutes at a time was replaced with his dad putting five drops of NCD in his drink 9 times a day. As the video evidence demonstrates, he got better and better as the weeks moved forward.
In the end, there were 3 changes that seemed to make the largest difference, removing the chains of Autism from Lucas .
The foremost, it was 45 drops a day of NCD, coupled with methlyB12 injections every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Weeks and months later, after Lucas had already mostly recovered, we then also introduced these remaining steps:
After a convincing address from Dr, Mc Candles at the 2006 Washington DC DAN conference, we decided to introduced LDN (see danwebcast.com link in the resources section of this web site).
Eleven weeks after starting NCD, we started Lucas on an anti parasite solution, his abdomen was still slightly distended, I believe it helped.
After twelve weeks, we slowed down to15-20 drops per day of NCD, as he started grinding his teeth. We suspected that may be caused by low magnesium, as Lucas has had that problem in the past. Perhaps his body was now so clean of free radicals that the NCD was now pulling good minerals at that high dose of 45 drops per day. Lucas responded very well to the reduces dose.
I have my son back. One battle won, now a war to win.
I will continue to document and publish everything that was done to recover my son. I share the same passion to help every kid off the spectrum as my own. I choose to fight for all of them with my every spare moment. We need to win back one child at a time. We have to do this ourselves for there seems to ben no glory, no recognition (often even from your own family), no medical journals backing you up and shamefully there is no help from the western medical establishment. We are truly on our own. The American FDA, CDC, IOM and pretty much every western federal health department has turned their backs on our children and common sense. You cannot cure Autism if you refuse to accept the now rather obvious, MERCURY and Aluminum in vaccines are the sparks that instigate Autism. Tell everyone you know.
